August 9th - Helping People Win @ Work

Garry RidgeGarry Ridge
President & CEO
WD-40 Company, San Diego

As the speaker for our SDPCA meeting on Monday, August 9th, Garry, who co-authored a book with Ken Blanchard titled Helping People Win at Work: A Business Philosophy called "Don't Mark My Paper, Help Me Get an A", will reveal how:

  • Trust is key to effective coaching. Build trust with your clients and help them succeed by accentuating the positives and celebrating successes. Everyone has "learning moments", but don't mark their papers - help them get A's.
  • Agree with each client on how to evaluate their progress. All good performance and growth starts with clear goals. Have your clients create short-term goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART Goals). Then, build a partnership and coach them with all your heart to reach their goals.
  • Transform their accomplishments into a powerful competitive advantage. Help them be successful. In the end, the world is a better place as result of their accomplishments.
  • Encourage your clients to engage in non-stop learning. Allow them to trust themselves and then help them to win. Build an open, honest atmosphere that helps people develop in their specific endeavors.
  • Highlight and acknowledge that everyone has their unique sets of skills, talents and energies. Guide them to develop these skills and to create an environment for themselves where they can thrive, lead and succeed.
